"Benedict Marlowe"

 Benedict Marlowe

From the journals of Benedict Marlowe—scribe, traveler, and most unlook’d-for chronicler of the New World—are these passages compiled, wherein the reader shall encounter not alone the daily commerce of a colony in its infancy, but likewise the very breath of adventure, the dark intrigues of schemers, the plots and counter-plots of men hungry for gain, the perils of sea and shore, the transports of romance, and the ungovern’d lusts and secret desires that do so often sway both gentle and base alike. Here also are preserv’d such swashbuckling exploits as may quicken the pulse and stir the imagination, a true mirror of an age wherein fortune and ruin walk’d hand in hand beneath the tropic sun.”
